Award-winning choreographer and renowned professional dancer, Kwame Shaka Opare offers this weekly class for all those wanting to learn and acquire clarity in the practice of West African dance. Participants will experience energetic yet detailed instruction trough a sequential development of combinations and movements across the floor!

7 pm Singing Circle with Lea Gilmore
Song lives in us all and is a part of our everyday lives in more ways than we realize. For centuries, people have used singing as a coping mechanism and healing tool, including Africans during the Middle Passage and Native Americans during the journey on the Trail of Tears. A pilot study published in the British Journal of Nursing found that singing contributes to reduction in the anxiety and depression that many patients experience following a major surgery and is worth prescribing before antidepressants. The Community Sings Listening Circles brings people of all ages and skill levels together to create beautiful music… no experience is necessary. The only prerequisite is a love of music and song!
Our presenter, Lea Gilmore, is a blues, gospel and jazz singing civic activist who has lent her voice, literally and figuratively, to advocacy for the under served of the world and made a huge difference. Lea was chosen by ESSENCE MAGAZINE as one of “25 Women Shaping the World.” A former deputy director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland and Program Director for the Association of Baltimore Area Grant Makers, in addition Ms. Gilmore has testified before local, state and federal commissions on issues ranging from immigration laws to the civil rights and liberties of women of color.
A native of Baltimore, Ms. Gilmore has lead concerts, choirs and singing circles around the world. Suggested Donation: $5
QiGong with Bridal Pearson
Qigong is an ancient Chinese exercise and healing technique that includes meditation, controlled breathing, mindfulness, and slow breathing. It can also be applied as a martial art.

Healing Yoga with Tameka
Begin your fall self care routine starting Sept 8th with Healing Yoga with Tameka Gray.
Tameka’s Vinyasa mixed with Hatha yoga is perfect for families and beginners and includes an introduction to meditation. Focusing on proper alignment and breath the Vinyasa practice brings awareness to our ability to flow through life with strength and grace while Hatha helps to maintain awareness of breath. Through exploration of these self-healing technologies we create a safe environment where the heart can heal and open up again to give and receive love; love of self and community. Students leave feeling stressless and capable of taking on the day with grace.
Come dressed in your most comfortable yoga gear and bring you yoga mat and towel or one may be provided.

Tameka is a passionate 200 hr Registered Yoga Teacher helping single parents find peace and harmony through meditation and yoga. Tameka’s unique yoga practice focuses on awareness of beneficial breath through meditation leading to a Vinyasa that is full of modifications for beginners and those beginning again. Beginners love Tameka’s teaching style because she is authentically attentive and fun creating an ideal environment for exploration and relaxation. She teaches private lessons and also partners with schools and communities teaching beginner yoga flows and daily meditation practices that specifically address the trauma involved in single-parent households.
A single mom that worked in corporate America for over a decade Tameka understands the stress that working single parents face and imparts wisdom on how peace and harmony can be found right now in our daily lives. Creating an environment conducive to self-awareness where peace blossoms, purpose is uncovered leading to a feeling of fulfillment, and harmony with self and the world. Stress is decreased and self-love is increased.
Tameka also consults organizations on how to incorporate yoga into their current program to aid individuals in finding a safe-place for self-nourishment, which arouses a healthier life and community. She emphasizes the importance of showing yoga to communities that have experienced trauma in order to revive healing.
In her free time Tameka enjoys focusing on other ways to stay healthy. She became a certified health specialist in 2005 and consults individuals on healthier eating habits along with herbal remedies naturally fighting allergies and the common cold.
Tameka is focused on giving students the necessary tools to create a personal meditation and yoga practice that will encourage a peaceful and harmonious life in spite of challenges.

You will be taught the most basic and fundamental elements, principles and moves of the dance, musicality along with important cultural aspects of Cuban music and dance. Learning Cuban Style will also help you be able to adapt to any style of salsa and will give you exposure on how to dance Son and Cha Cha Cha…….. About the facilitator Kenyatta (Kenni) Moon:
For over sixteen years, Kenyatta Macon-Moon has been enriching the lives of children, parents, educators, and community members with her message of holistic learning, peace and universal compassion. Kenyatta graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. degree in Human Growth & Development/Early Childhood Education from Sojourner-Douglass College and received her diploma as a Montessori Instructor from the North American Montessori Center. She is a trained Malenga through the School of Heaven and Earth in Martial Arts & Healing Systems, Bando Yoga, and The 7-Levels of Mindful Living System and is a Master Level Reiki practitioner. She is also a member of New Era Dance Company, Hiram Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star, IFITI Traditional Spiritual and Cultural House, and was a founding member of the Blue Black Magical Woman’s Rites Program as well as a mentor in the Sun Sistas Girls’ Rites Program. In addition to her work in these organizations, Kenyatta is the founder of Flowing River Yoga, a mindfulness, meditation and healing movement arts practice, and was a student of traditional healing and meditation in the M’tam School of the Earth Center. She is the founder of Nsoroma Academy for Holistic Thought, Nsoroma Holistic Daycare and her newest offering, Holistic Living by Keny Moon©, a program that she has shared with the public as a weekly drive-time segment on WEAA’s First Edition. Kenyatta is also a writer, public speaker, workshop facilitator, mentor, initiated Osun Priestess and devotee, and a proud mother of two beautiful daughters.
