Wine & Tea Sexy City Swap

Our economy is teaching us new behaviors regarding spending.  Gone are the days of conspicuous consumerism.  Instead of purchasing new things, we are using our collective resources to recycle our gently used items.  We have an opportunity to shop within our "sister's closets" by not handing the articles down but handing them over.

Spring is in air and we are heading into the season of light weight clothing. We should be thinking about storing our sweaters, coats and boots, while letting go of stuff you have not wore or used in the past year.  Let's try to use this weekend to purge!  Extract last spring and summer pieces that you have out grown in size and style. Many of these items such as dresses, shoes, belts and bags are no longer your "go to" friends.  It's time to move them along to make way for the new and different.

The Wine & Tea Sexy City Swap allows women to exchange gently used upscale items while enjoying the company of local fashionistas.  We will swap style stories, make-up tips, shopping sites and spots, while sipping and dipping lite fare on a spring afternoon.

Bring 5 items that are upscale and gently used:

- evening clothes
- dresses
- summer suits
- shoes
- sandles
- belts
- hats
- bags
- etc.

How it works

Each participant will get to pull a number to determine in which order she will get to choose an item.  There will be 5 rounds of swaps.

Cost $10.00

April 1st join a Polyrhythmic Extravaganza with Dr. Djo Bi

Urban Foli and Director Menes Yahudah invites you to experience a living percussionist legend Dr. Djo Bi.

Dr. Djo Bi has a unique talent and understanding of the rhythms and sounds of his culture.  His parents were musicians, and Dr. Djo Bi has had a drum in his hands since he was a toddler.  Around age 5, he was performing in church; and by the time he was a young teenager, he was invited to begin a professional career as a musician/artist among seasoned adult musicians and dancers. He was giving the title of Dr. by way of his masterful skill of drumming.  Having lived in Paris, France, for a dozen years, Dr. Djo Bi was able to involve himself with a wide variety of musical experiences.  He was even involved with the African Museum in Brussels, Belgium, as part of a research group with Curator Anne Marie Bouttiaux returning with him to his village to learn about mask dance culture.  Dr. Djo Bi is the preeminent Zaouly Mask Drummer in the United States.

Dr. Djo Bi has worked with students of all ages, from preschoolers to senior citizens.  He has taught in public and private school settings, museums, drum and dance schools/camps, workshops and special events.  Dr. Djo Bi loves his craft and lives with it every day.  It is his mission to share his love of music with you.

In 1997, Dr. Djo Bi moved to New York City.  He has performed and educated across the States, particularly around New England and the Eastern seaboard while he lived in New York for 10 years. Currently, he lives in Bloomington, Indiana, with his wife and daughter where he teaches drum and dance and performs in the community and surrounding area.

STD transmission and Sexual Assault goes unreported and impacts our community safety and the human spirit. On April 6, 2012, The Living Well will host "Silent Situations" a day of dialogue, information and testing. Hoop Dancing

Hula hooping has reached a whole new level! Hoop dancing, also known as “hooping,” is a non-impact workout that burns fat, tones your muscles, and renews your energy. Much more than around-the-waist hula hooping, hoop dance incorporates virtually all parts of a dancer’s body. It’s a fun and relatively easy way to stay in shape while also improving your flexibility, coordination, and mood!

What to wear: Form-fitting clothing is preferred for learning body moves, but come dressed in whatever you feel comfortable dancing in.  (Dresses, jeans, and baggy sweatpants are not recommended.) Footwear is optional.

*Optional – Your own hula hoop (not the toy kind found in most stores).  Hoop ordering information

When: Thursdays (March 1st - April 5th)

Time: 7:45 pm - 8:45 pm

Cost: $8.00
