What’s old is NEW again. Vintage style and artifacts are in demand and can be seen reflected in our current fashion culture. Vintage and Retro boutiques are popping up all over the city as well as on-line. Wearing vintage is HOT! We are seeing it at work, brunches, Black Tie events and on the Red Carpet in Hollywood. The old stuff has not only increased in sentimental value but economic value as well. You may want to take another look at Grandma’s old jewelry and clothes.

If you enjoy wearing head turning vintage frocks, dedicated to collecting the old stuff or hulking yesterday’s artifacts on the side, you are in luck. The Vintage & Retro salon show and sale is designed for enthusiast to enjoy an afternoon of old school Panache. Vendors and collectors will fill The Living Well space with clothes, bags, shoes, jewelry and other vintage life style artifacts. Fashion historians, fashion and design students are encouraged to attend.We will discuss the evolution of vintage collecting and how old school style continues to inspire current fashion trends.

Congratulations to Likisha Hill of Bmore Natural in Maryland for putting her idea into action.  She is what we call a social entrepreneur. 

Urban Foli is a musical theater performance group that expresses traditional African drumming and dance bridged with contemporary sound and movements. Urban Foli uses ethnomusicology to cultivate a mixture of West African and African American percussion and culture.

Under ancient tradition, each ethnic/tribal group or percussionist develops their own sound; Urban Foli encourages its members to combine ancient teachings with the evolution of R&B and hip-hop culture and sound. The goal is not only to preserve traditional music and history, but to continue the legacy of percussion and movement that has been passed down in the Americas. The group’s mission is to expose as many as possible to the fusion of mainstream contemporary music and culture with ancient African beats, movement and sounds.

Urban Foli's upcoming production "When the Moon Cries",  is a multimedia musical depicting the evolution of African American male/female relationships in the decades post-slavery.

The Living Well has been the home studio for Urban Foli since our beginning in 2009. Menes Yahudah, founder and director is an enthnomusicologist and urban folist.  Mr. Yahudah started teaching a children's drum class at our original studio located on St. Paul street.  His classes were small in size resulting in little revenue. After we moved to our N. Charles Street location, the Urban Foli music and performance theater company, drum and dance classes line of business have grown significantly.  Mr. Yahudah has emerged as a master djembe drum instructor sought after by national and international performance companies. 

Mr. Yahudah's talent and commitment to the preservation and study of African percussion and dance art forms have helped to sustain and grow The Living Well studio.  Because of Urban Foli under the direction of Menes Yahudah, The Living Well is recognized and respected as a place for thought leadership regarding the preservation, artistic study and application of musicology from African Diaspora.

In short, Urban Foli plays a key role in our studio's financial stability by paying a portion of the studio's financial cost. Urban Foli kicked started The Living Well in the beginning and continues to play a key leadership and partnership role in our success.
